Cedars
Dorm features a full kitchen
Side-by-side refrigerator, range with oven, coffeemaker, microwave.
Originally called the Hangar, Cedars Cottage was
built as a service barn, then it turned into a garage and an office with living quarters. The more we added, the nicer
it got! It has central heat and air, a living room with a twin bed, a sofa, a nice recliner, and a TV. The Cedars Dorm bath has ceramic tile, pedestal
sink and glass enclosed shower. The Cedars Dorm has a large plushly carpeted room upstairs (18 X 36) with a cathedral beadboard
ceiling and two ceiling fans. The huge bedroom has a king bed, a queen bed, a double bed and an antique twin bed with
TV and also a sitting area. It will sleep 6-8 comfortably in a dormitory fashion. We can also move in extra cots.
The Lone Oak Room was finished out later and that is where Betty & Del lived while the Eagle's Nest Lodge was being built.
There is a patio out front which has a patio table and chairs, metal rocking chairs, a bbq grill with the addition
of a copper firepit which is really wonderful on those cool nights of fall, winter and early spring. Personally, that is our
favorite time of the year when the days are pleasant and the nights a little chilly!
Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in the Cedars
Dorm. If you have toddlers, are elderly or disabled, please be aware of the stairs.

Betty & Del One of the most memorable events that I have ever had in my entire life was landing
on the Ruth Glacier on Mt McKinley in Alaska. It truly was reaching out and touching the face of God. As called
by its Indian name, Denali, the Great One, McKinley is the highest mountain in North America. We went up in airplanes
two times before to get a glimpse of the Great One but clouds shrouded this elusive mountain. The third time was the
charm. The day broke crystal clear, and there before our eyes was this enormous mountain, far larger than all the others.
We took off from the small village of Talkeetna and flew over a rescue operation to get a group of stranded climbers off the
mountain. What a treat it was to sit at a small cafe that evening listening to their stories. There is nothing I can
say to compare with standing there, snow all around us, looking up at a the circle of ragged, lofty peaks. It gave
us a true feeling of humility to know how small we are and how great are the works of the Lord.

Above, Del Meischen in our Cessna 182 flying near Bellville.
Betty is actually flying the plane at the moment the picture was taken. Del as instructor always sits in the right seat
when we fly. Even though I have had my
pilot's license for over 25 years, he still thinks he needs to instruct me. I still make pretty decent landings but
we don't fly near as much as we did in our younger years. An occasional flight to Dallas to see our son Scott or down
to Port Mansfield near Padre Island to go fishing with our son Jeff. He has a really neat beach house there which he
leases out. When the kids were little we flew to California, Alabama and Colorado
with all three in the back. We really had a great time flying to Oshkosh Wisconsin to the
big airshow there. The original
name for Cedar Cottage was the Hangar. We called it that because Del and I are both general aviation pilots.
So are our sons Jeff and Scott. Del was a Captain in the USAF 1970-75 flying T38's and the Convair T130. Currently, he is
a flight instructor in the civilian world. We decorated the Hangar with many articles of our collected flying paraphanalia.
For the past 6 years, most people will remember this building by its original name but we always had to explain why
we called it the Hangar. It was a little joke...we never found a place that we could afford to have a runway so we just
built this building and decorated it with Del's airplane stuff. After we built the Eagle's Nest Lodge, most of the aviation
stuff was moved there and we re-decorated.

A covered carport/patio cover in front keeps the rain off our guests. The car in front of the Cottage Cottage is a 1928 Model A Ford.
Betty and son-in-law Ryan are riding in the rumble seat. Daughter Becky and sons Jake and Sam are seated in the car.

Entry to Cedars Dorm is
through the single door on the right. Through the French doors
on the left is the Lone Oak Room. Renting both sides gives
our guests 2 King beds, 1 queen, 1 full, 2 twins, 1 sofa, a full kitchen and 2 baths
